The Artist

I have always enjoyed things that are pretty and pleasing to the eye and to me there is no greater joy than taking something that is ugly or plain and boring and turning it into something fabulous, whether it is a piece of furniture or even a wall.

As a child, I loved coloring like most kids do, but my grandmother would tell my mom that I was different, that I had a gift.  It wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I discovered this gift.  An artist-in-residence visited our school for three days and I was in heaven.  He had us clip out images from magazines to draw.  It was when I was looking at my finished piece in comparison to the rest of the class that I realized my grandmother was right about my gift.

In college, I majored in Fine Art and was given the chance to dabble in several different art forms but it was painting that really caught my attention.  After my first painting course, my professor, Dr. Bob Palmer, handpicked me (with a handful of other students) to paint under him for Palmer Studios.  We traveled all over the state painting murals on the outside of buildings.  This became my job for the next several years and introduced me to a fascinating art form.   While working on my degree I was President of the Art Club and instituted several new opportunities for art students.  I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art.

During this time, while painting for Palmer Studios, several relatives asked me to paint murals in their kids’ rooms. Some of their friends saw these rooms and asked me to paint murals in their homes.  My mural painting business had begun!  My small mural painting business slowly and steadily has grown by word of mouth from all of my great clients.

In 2005, I was given the opportunity to paint for Bass Pro Shops.  They flew me and another mural painting friend, Sharon McCoy Davis, all over the United States painting in several of their new stores including; Council Bluffs, Iowa, Denver, Colorado and Clarksville, Indiana.

Shortly after seeing some of these murals, we (Sharon and I) were contacted by Weber Group to paint for them in several different water parks around the country, including many of the Great Wolf Lodges.  Over the next three years, we traveled to, Ohio, Texas, Washington and North Dakota.  Among these exciting experiences I also had the opportunity to paint on a mural for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in Lexington, Oklahoma.  Wow! That was an amazing experience!  And, yes, they really do build an entire home within seven days time!

In addition to this, I have had some of my artwork published in the ODWC Hunter Education Manual, as well as, designing several logos for local businesses and parks.  In 2008, I painted in the Feature Home of the Parade of Homes and had the joy of seeing my murals be the focus of the TV commercials promoting the event.

I stopped painting out of state when my husband, Wade, and I started trying to have a family.  In April of 2009, we were blessed with an adorable and very energetic son, Nolin.
